What Is Linux

Linux is an operating system evolved from a kernel created by Linus Torvalds. To say that Linux is a operating system that it’s meant to be used as an alternative to other operating systems, Windows, Mac OS, MS-DOS, Solaris and others. Linux is not a program or not a set of programs like an office suite. Linux is an interface between computer/server hardware, and the programs which run on it.

The term Linux properly refers to just the operating system kernel itself. However, in popular parlance ‘Linux’ is used to refer to a complete Linux Distribution which includes GUI components and many other utilities, many of which are supplied by the GNU Project.Android, for example also uses the Linux kernel but includes different components from most desktop Linux distributions.

Two Major Parts Of Linux:

1. Shell: Shell is a interface between users(Programs) and kernel.

2. Kernel: Kernel is what tells the Hardware of your computer to do what your program made for.It is interface between shell and hardware.
